A Brown Thrasher at a nest site.
It is very important not to disturb nest sites.  If the parent bird appears agitated leave immediately.  NEVER cut away branches or twigs from a nest area as this makes the nest more vulnerable to predators.  This bird was content to have me sit near the nest for hours and continued to feed the babies.  I did not take pictures of the babies because they were safely hidden in the thick brush.

Ice Storm of 2008

The ice storm that hit Central Massachusetts on 12-11-08 was devastating.  Thousands of households were without power for up to 2 weeks when trees broke under the weight of the ice.   At the same time, there was incredible beauty the morning after the storm.  To view more images click on picture or go to Featherfotos.smugmug.com

A Great Gray Owl
This Owl is usually found in the Northern woods of Canada but every 7-10 years or so the food supply they depend on fails.  Without Voles and other small mammals to feast on they travel South.  This movement is called an irruption and in February 2005 we traveled to Montreal to check it out.

Photoshop and other software programs can be used to create beautiful images for cards and prints.  Start with the best image you can take and enhance it with filters in the photography software program of your choice.

An icon in New England, Mount Monadnock is located in Jaffrey N.H.
There are 40 miles of maintained foot trails, many of which lead to the bare rock summit through unique alpine vegetation. Unsurpassed 100-mile views to points in all six New England states are the reward for a climb. A magnet for hikers, Monadnock is said to be the second most frequently climbed mountain in the world, after Japan's Mt. Fuji.

A baby Moose near Baxter State Park in Maine.  One of the best places to see Moose, Sandy Stream Pond is an easy hike from Roaring Brook campsite.  It is important to respect all wildlife and stay out of their comfort zone.  If they appear agitated (or their Mother does!), back off.
